Helping your kids with Valentines activities
Valentine’s day while typically representative of love with couples going out to celebrate for some it is a stark reminder for some of the things that have recently changed in their lives. Being recently divorced can be strange as you get used to not having a spouse around you constantly. Valentine’s day can make this fact even more apparent as you realize once again that you are no longer in that relationship. This is not a bad thing, it is just different and that is totally ok.
For your children Valentine’s means they get to decorate a box and receive/give out valentines to their friends and classmates. This is not something that is typically done just by a child and they will need help getting everything ready for the fun day ahead of them. Things such as candy to include in the valentine’s need to be purchased by an adult, as young children are not capable of going to the store by themselves and buying things. You may not be in the valentines spirit but showing your children you care about them and their activities is a great way to show your support. It is the small things that can make a big impact on a small child.
Doing a family activity for Valentine’s day is another great way to still enjoy the holiday. As Valentine’s day celebrates love you can celebrate your love for your children. A fun and relatively simple activity that you can do is make heart shaped pizzas. All you need is some frozen dough and your favorite toppings. You can help your children shape their dough, spread sauce and cheese on it, then put the toppings on and throw the pizzas in the oven. If you need something a little less time consuming there is always the classic decorating heart shaped cookie that most children love to do.
